Nights are colder and longer, wind is blowing, air is drier and much like the season, we can feel the effects of these changes in our own bodies.  Some Ayurvedic reminders:

  1. Quick morning Dinacharya (Daily Routines)

Set your clock a half hour earlier so you don’t need to rush

Keep a journal on your nightstand and spend a few moments upon waking to stream of consciousness journal.  It can be whatever is on your mind, dreams you remember or a gratitude journal

Cleanse your senses for the day: tongue scrape/brush teeth/oil pull

Dab of sesame oil on pinky fingers – roll in each nostril to lubricate, wash hands

Dab of sesame oil on pointer fingers – swirl in ears, wash hands

Drink 16 oz warm water and continue to also sip warm water throughout the day

  1. Slow Down
  2. Dress in warm layers
  3. Abhyanga (warm oil massage) with sesame oil, can add essential oils (think warming, calming, grounding) I like lavender & sandalwood for evening, wild orange and cedarwood for daytime.  Massage the oil in long strokes toward the heart and be sure to give extra circles around the joints: ankles, knees, hips, wrists, elbows and shoulders Check out our recent blog post for benefits and full instructions
  4. Practice Bhramari (humming) breath – soothing and helps tap into our rest and restore system

Bonus:  One of my favorite diffuser blends for fall…

Cedarwood, clove, orange, vanilla, lavender
